I know 1 dude that did this. He was a lit dude and got an in house position pretty early (like 4th year) at a major business he had worked for before law school (demz connections). After like 5 years, the business was bought by a person that's terrible to work for, and he was like fuck this, and he landed a partner gig at a biglaw firm. I bet he's gone soon though. He has no partner-level skills, and he left the only business he has contacts with to join the firm.

I know someone who did this after going in house as a 5th/6th year. My sense was that there was a political issue, and this person either got caught, or was very likely to get caught, in the crossfire. Not sure this person would have gone back to biglaw if things had worked out in house.
