Yes. i am from Houston and remember clutch city well. he fucking dominated back in the day.

whats remarkable though was the Knicks getting to the 94 finals w their best players being Ewing and John Starks...i credit Riley with that run

How much hype was there for the Hakeem/Barkley/Pippen team? Didn't start following the NBA until the next season.

they had some good role players too and played really hard D. Still an impressive feat and a testament to Ewing and Riley.

comparing their career stats is interesting.

Hakeem blocked more shots. but Shaq's field goal percentage is what truly set him apart. looking at their respective peaks, Shaq averaged more points per game while shooting a significantly higher fg%.

Shaq averaged > 25 ppg 10 times, all consecutively.

Hakeem averaged > 25 ppg 4 times, all consecutively.

Shaq averaged over 8 foul shots a game or more 14 times, all consecutively.

Hakeem averaged 8 foul shots a game 1 time.

opposition simply had no answer for Shaq and opposing front courts were simply destroyed.

You can say that, but Hakeem punked them all when it came down to it. Sabonis instead of Kevin Duckworth in Portland for those early 90s runs would have been amazing though.

People are citing field goal percentage? Is this 1995? Google "True Shooting Percentage", my friend. Prime Shaq had a very slight edge in TS% over prime Hakeem. Hakeem was a superior passer and defender.

And if you rank Robinson over Hakeem, you didn't watch basketball in the early/mid-90s.

agreed. He was a great player on par with Robinson and Ewing who won 2 championships with a stacked roster towards the end of his career. Shaq was dominant.

LOLOL the Rockets were never stacked. They had Vernon Maxwell, Cassell and Thorpe the one year they won. The next they traded Thorpe for Drexler.

There were no dominant teams in those in b/t years w/o MJ. Any team the Bulls beat in the Finals from '92-'98 would have curbstomped the Rockets.

The west as a whole was pretty stacked in those days though.

its crazy to think that Nick Van Exel was the best thing the lake show had going back in the mid-90s.
