Physics PhD, a little short of 10 years at a big law firm. 150ish with significant stock grants.

Those jobs are at much more established companies where there is way less upside on the equity. I am at a legit start up. I make basically as much as the founders salary wise.

So, I think that it was a mistake to conflate novelty/obviousness with subject matter eligibility the way the court did, but I think they were trying to give lower courts a tool to knock out clearly BS software and business methods patents. But I think the pendulum will swing back if/when the courts start invalidating legit software patents (say complicated compression or image processing stuff).

I would guess that he is taking his connect 4 talents to Sacremento.

I don't really watch much college ball, so I don't know too much about Smart. But I tend to prefer bigger point guards. I know he is listed at 6'4 or whatever, but he doesn't look it on the court.

Few years in patent pros., passed patent bar, T10.

How do I get to where you are now. Probably decision is a) IP transactions at BIGLAW b) lit at BIGLAW c) broader range at a smaller firm. Right?

In general, I'm not really interested in pros/lit. Much rather do transactional, business side, or at least do a broader range of stuff.

Of those choices I would say (a). If you could do (a) and mix in some prosecution/portfolio management/opinion work that would be the best.

other option is to kick around a few more years (probs like 2+ years post no-breakfasting before shitcan) So that gives me something like 3 - 3.5 more years at a salary in the high 2s.

Still worth interviewing now or wait for no-breakfast and shitcan?

how does it feel to know your UG degree meant infinitely more to your career success than any poliSci grad's law school, law school grades, clerkship, and post-law school legal work experience meant to their career success?

Yes, one of those, they work super long hours and travel a ton. Comp is like senior biglaw associate level, when you take into account the full package. The main bonus is you are around more creative/interesting people than in a firm.

They constantly overbill, then I complain because I actually review the bill and know their tricks, and then they cut it. Circle of life.

Also, I wrote up very detailed outside counsel guidelines that I based on one of my former clients outside counsel rules.

I negotiated flat fee for certain stiff like IDS filings.

I think 3rd year is pretty early unless you are leaving for a big company where you will receive further training. I think 6-10 years experience is more normal.
