If you're doing insurance defense work, then it might be shitty, but some defense work seems to be OK. Some cool stuff actually. Most really enjoy it, especially as they get a few years out. I think the quality of work and responsibility level is much higher quality than biglaw, so then it becomes a question of hours worked and firm culture. for example, my friend's dad owns a 10 person firm, and while i don't know what he makes, his parents house is easily a 1.25-1.5 million house (and this isn't LA/SF/NYC), his folks were able to pay for my friends ivy ugrad, ivy masters with ease, and they constantly have new cars every 2 years (range rover and higher end mercedes). his firm represents many of the area hospitals (in a top 10 largest metro area).
i'm sure his dad isn't the only smalllaw lawyer making serious bank. |
