Not really. Other guys like Clifford brown and art farmer were far more technically proficient. Davis was much more innovative. Clark terry was more fun to listen to. But in the whole, baker was too vanilla, too white and too tied up in the cool west coast sound to really make a play for GOAT. While he was commercially big with white audiences due to his sound, his good looks and limited crooner range (my funny valentine) he wasn't as respected by critics because he played too safe and too "in." While a lot of other dudes in his time had drug problems, his was off the charts and crippled his playing (rotted teeth fucked his chops permanently) and ultimately killed him. Davis typically get the goat mantle because he was a super brave player, innovator and genre bending dude, but for my money, it's a toss up between Clark terry and Clifford brown.

Oliver Nelson was a great composer/arranger but not really much of a soloist. Dexter Gordon was a prototypical bop sax player. I wish we could clone him 1000x

stolen moments is a fantastic 180 composition. I transcribed every part in my jazz theory class freshmen year of college. 90% of the voicings I used in compositions for that degree were ripped from that tune. I owe him a lot actually
