Would gross just under 160k. Could probably keep overhead to 25k/yr. How impossible is this?

this is what most solos do for their first year after starting out. after that, he should consider hiring a few fresh law graduates to help out, pay them $70K and he should net $1.5 million or so

The hourly rate probably isn't crazy. The median for solos in Arizona is about $250, and that holds whether its a home office or a regular office.

[Edit: State bar survey: http://i.imgur.com/VbKjgzt.jpg But the response rate is weak.]

And billing 625 hours or so per year doesn't seem all that impossible, while dedicating the other 30 hours per week to marketing and admin.

The hourly rate isn't crazy, maybe a little high, more like $200-225 for typical generalist type of solo, but averaging 12 hours a week is extremely difficult. Most people don't get the kind of clients that give yearly business. They'll give you one thing to do, you spend 20 hours on it or whatever, and then it's over, and then you don't see that client again forever, and then you have nothing coming in.

Hm, good point. You'd probably have to add another 2-3 hours a week to make up for the odd hour that's not collectible.

Look breh. I used to work in an industry where I saw what a lot of lawyers made per year. Unless you are really industrious or have a super super super niche area you won't be making nearly as much as you think. I saw most solo practice attorneys making 50-80 k a year. The attorneys who make more either work 60+ hours a week and HUSTLE or aren't solo and run a small shop.

Small shop is probably the correct way to do things if you want to do more admin and less law.
