- Ivy or similar undergrad with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.8 in a quantitative major, but not engineering (to screen out FOBs) - 2 to 3 years at one of MBB - 1 to 2 years doing something at a start-up or non- profit - GMAT between 730 and 770 (below and it hurts their numbers, above and they suspect you are an FOB) - No more than 26 years old
This is the closest thing there is to a guaranteed HBS or Stanford admit. Obviously as you move down the food chain you need fewer of the above, but all of the top 20ish schools want the same thing. Below the top 20 and all you need is the ability to take on six figure debt.

Of course a women or URM with the above profile would be even more of an auto admit, but probably >80% of the people who fit that mold are white dudes.
As far as white engineers go, I've yet to meet one with a GPA over 3.3 or so (myself included), unless their from Eastern Europe. Blame our crappy HS level math educations. |
