Seems like nobody gets biglaw anymore even in T14, vast majority of lawyers I know are underemployed, even ones who get 'good' jobs at constant risk of firing . How did law get so bad and will it improve ?

lol... how many people are getting biglawl from UVA or Mich these days? Half at best? I graduated from one of those a couple years ago and it was still pretty grim. lots of "midlaw" or shitty firms.

Georgetown is even less I'm sure.

I graduated from MVP in 2012/2013 and everyone in the top 75% who didn't have a personality disorder could get a BigLaw offer.

were you at Penn? I Know one of M/V was definitely NOT like this. there were people with median grades who did not get offers. only a fraction of the people I knew got actual on campus offers, the others from mass mailing. lots of people ended up in secondary markets who wanted DC/MFH

I was not at Penn. One of M or V.

Vast majority of my medianish friends got BigLaw SA. Lots of people were able to get BigLaw by graduation if they missed out on getting a summer associate gig. Had one friend (white male) who had like a 3.1 and multiple BigLaw offers (though in less desirable markets, like Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, etc.).

If most of your median grades were not getting offers, they were probably either socially inept or were gunning for DC.

Ending up in secondary market when you wanted DC/MFH = still getting BigLaw. You're in no way fucked in that situation. I went to a secondary market by choice and could easily lateral to a MFH BigLaw if I wanted. Common knowledge is that most firms actually underhired in c/o 2012 and 2013 and are short on juniors in some practice areas.

who the hell said that? i said people dont get multiple offers in secondary city biglaw. But let me correct that, no way in hell someone with a 3.1 from penn law is getting multiple offers in any city that isn't new york or dc. and those offices you mentioned hire maybe five people a year.

People get multiple offers in secondary city BigLaw. I think I had four spread over three cities.

nah its just a crap industry and theres 2-3+ times as many grads coming through good or respected schools as there are jobs nowadays. as long as you do everything perfectly you should still be well on your way to a life as an in house lawyer at some dumb company.

Corporate America decided to get serious about costs at the same time technology and contractors took away serious revenue streams. So it's shrinking.

But I think that the law will still be part of the way the world operates in 100 years and the profession will live on.

Op is an exaggerating dumbass. There is a middle ground between "nobody gets big law" and law being the ticket to riches.

Also, dude above claiming that secondary city outposts of major firms are just handing out offers to median MVP kids is full of shit

Graduated from a middling T14 two years ago and I didn't know anyone who graduated unemployed, besides one or two of the token super-awkward kids. The majority of my friends who wanted biglaw got it, and everyone else got government, mid-sized or boutique firms, or public interest.

Doesn't mean law school doesn't suck though. $150k in debt for a miserable job you'll hate after 1 year is a bad trade.
