Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, defending proposed budget cuts for higher education, took a swipe at university professors who he said could be “teaching more classes and doing more work.”
“Maybe it’s time for faculty and staff to start thinking about teaching more classes and doing more work and this authority frees up the [University of Wisconsin] administration to make those sorts of requests,” Walker (R) said Wednesday on Iowa radio station WTMJ.
Walker’s comments came as he spoke about his proposed budget, which would cut $300 million over the next two years from the University of Wisconsin system. He added the school would still receive block grants.
Walker said his proposal would hold the university accountable and “puts the ball clearly in their court.”
His proposed budget, Walker said, would free the administration “from shared governance,” which he said “kept the university from directly running things” as it needed to make decisions with faculty.
The Republican said the university’s system will “have to be more effective, more efficient.”
Walker, who does not have a college degree of his own, noted that he has a child at the University of Wisconsin.
“So, of course I have a vested interest in making sure that works well,” he said, and also pointed to his Democratic predecessor, Gov. Jim Doyle, who, he said, had made similar cuts during his first term.

cr
I don't see how this isn't going to end up pwning students in the end. It's too bad too, because UW had been one of the best values in higher education.
Undergrad resident tuition is $10,410, with nonresidents at $26,660.
http://finaid.wisc.edu/undergraduate-cost.htm
At Michigan, resident tuition is about $14k with nonresident tuition being as high as $45k. Ho lee fuk that nonresident figure is out of control.

if it was plagarism or cheating or domestic violence, it would be relevant.
if it was because he sucked as a student or didn't got to class, not relevant.
the only argument that it would be relevant is that he is not "an image of what we want our children to aspire to" - and the concern would be that children would be less likely to aspire to go to college because their president didn't go to college. I don't think that is a valid concern, and if anything we should be sending a message that NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO TO COLLEGE.

I think most people, regardless of how educated they themselves are, would feel that graduating from a college is a prerequisite to serving as the president of the united states.
It's weird to me that often the right argues that people are smarter *because* they have succeeded without college degrees. Successful doesn't equal smart.

it's true bro. You can support tax cuts but to not view them as an expense is silly.
We need to raise taxes and cut spending. This has been true for at least 15 years, arguably more like 30 years. Bush lowered taxes and dramatically raised spending.
Obama wants to raise taxes and dramatically raise spending more. I don't agree with how he wants to raise taxes exactly, of course.

and no one can remember anything he accomplished during his prestigious career in the Illinois state senate. What they can remember is that he spent most of the time running for president.
And that's OK, because no one elected him for his experience or because they thought he would be a good political manager or Washington playmaker like Lyndon Johnson (which he has shown that he isn't). They elected him because he represented crazy left-wing shitlib values (MORE MONEY FOR DEM PROGRAMS!! LET'S TALK ABOUT RACE ALL THE TIME!!).
Walker is like the right wing crazy version of that. I wouldn't vote for him, but to call him out for not getting a BA at an appropriate liberally influenced college is LOL. Focus on his views instead.

agreed with most of those points. except his 7 years in Il legislator was decorated:
Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation that reformed ethics and health care laws.[52] He sponsored a law that increased tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. n 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures.
In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority.[57] He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained, and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations.[53][58] During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms

It's not 300 million of cuts to UW-Madison. It's cuts to UW-Madison but also the other random UW schools. They'll be fine.
Wisconsin used to be a great deal, much better deal than Michigan, but it'll jack up tuition and bring in more Chinese.
