I struck out at OCI. I've been applying to literally 500+ places, tailoring cover letters and what not. I'm not sure what to do anymore. I took a break over the winter and have come back. I'm applying on Simplicity (school job search board), but it has barely any new job opening posts. Spring OCI is a joke (literally 1 firm). I do not know where else to apply. Do I just wait? My goal is transactional work and all my classes are centered on corporate courses. Ideally I would like to work in biglaw (which probably is unlikely, I know) or in-house. Career services has told me to start looking at public interest jobs. Really, I don't know if I should start looking at public interest jobs. First of all, my interest/classes do not align with public interest jobs. Secondly, I don't think I'll have much trouble getting a public interest job later in the semester (last year for my 1L job search, I had no trouble getting a PI summer job). My question is, what do I do NOW before I last resort to a public interest position? Anyone who was in my situation have any advice?"

And 100+ firm doesn't really mean much honestly. There are firms like that in my city that don't pay great, demand high hours, and don't offer much lateral opportunity.
Fed clerkship alone isn't all that prestigious either. Do you really care if someone clerked for the Dist. of Nebraska or some shit?
I know these are *good* schools relatively speaking but this is just fucking pathetic. 10 years ago you were a lock for biglaw. |

Thus, at least 83%-88% of the class is accounted for right there, depending on how many wanted public interest or government from the outset.
It's plausible that 12% are just so aspie they have trouble getting jobs. Plenty of kids at median have tons of offers, if they are chill bros.

The number who want it is probably less than 5%. Another 1% didn't answer the survey, and a small number of those clerkships and big firms are garbage. So about 15-20% of the class got crap. Not all that bad, but this is Columbia. Go downtown to NYU and these numbers are easily 5-10% worse. And just a few spots lower down the rankings and you're looking at 50-50 prospects at best.
