Yeah I mean esp in America where ppl are always changing. You go to HS and grow up around ppl and then never see them post HS.
Ditto at every stage of American life. It is all frauds. In other countries ppl never leave. That is the only way to really have a community, not this fraud and lies where everyone is just a whore.

49. For primitive societies the natural world (which usually changes only slowly) provided a stable framework and therefore a sense of security. In the modern world it is human society that dominates nature rather than the other way around, and modern society changes very rapidly owing to technological change. Thus there is no stable framework.
50. The conservatives are fools: They whine about the decay of traditional values, yet they enthusiastically support technological progress and economic growth. Apparently it never occurs to them that you can't make rapid, drastic changes in the technology and the economy of a society with out causing rapid changes in all other aspects of the society as well, and that such rapid changes inevitably break down traditional values.
51. The breakdown of traditional values to some extent implies the breakdown of the bonds that hold together traditional small-scale social groups. The disintegration of small-scale social groups is also promoted by the fact that modern conditions often require or tempt individuals to move to new locations, separating themselves from their communities. Beyond that, a technological society HAS TO weaken family ties and local communities if it is to function efficiently. In modern society an individual's loyalty must be first to the system and only secondarily to a small-scale community, because if the internal loyalty to the system, such communities would pursue their own advantage at the expense of the system.

I think there is some truth to this. I saw an ex out on the street the other day that I had had a terrible break up with. I didn't even really have any sort of emotional reaction when I saw her and was just more concerned with getting to where I was headed.
But at the same time, some women are obviously more credited than others.

Last night I saw this Brazilian chick I banged three years ago. It was so random. I fucking banged her once, jizzed in her mouth, then never saw her again.
I randomly saw her at a party then was on a bus and she was on it too with her BF. I was thinking how I jizzed in this chicks mouth three years ago and now I won't even talk to her and she does not even recognize me esp since she would not be expecting me to be back in her town.

XO is showing itself to be a bastion of the white, upper middle class elite ITT.
I'm sorry dudes, but the vast, vast, vast majority of Americans end up pretty close to home. They go to the local or state U, they move home, they move to the large regional/state metro because it has jobs. They stay close with their high school friends and this isn't just some backwater thing. People who go to legitimately good state schools will do this too. The reality is that most of you are corporatist strivers who only know other like-minded people, so you project this fantasy that your life must be the American way. There's nothing else out there!
Wrong. You just don't want to admit what you really want, more than anything else in the world, is that $$$ and prestige. If you gave that up, you could have gotten your community. But instead you play the game maybe 5-10% of America plays. You don't even know there's another world out there.

recently had what i thought was a deep, meaningful relationship with some girl, established quickly over the course of 2-3 months, was distraught that she was moving to a different city in the middle of the summer for work
turns out she was actually just moving for another guy and didn't want to be upfront about it.
not sure what this has to do with the thread topic but ftge

everyone in this thread is an insane broken wreck.
every one of my exes (and there have only been a few) has made a lasting impact on me as a person, and if i saw them irl i would feel a wide range of strong emotions.
just own up to the fact that you have psychopathic tendencies when it comes to forming romantic relationships, and that you (and not society) are mostly at fault for this.
the guys who weep that women have become fungible, are the same ones on tinder spamming 300 chicks at a time. because you wanted to indulge in casual flings and carefree dating lives, you have become the way you are. own and live with it, because there's no turning back.

the fact that you had to ask the first question - lol i rest my case. let me guess, you even have "fuckbuddies."
why do you expect to engage in promiscuity that was uncommon to 99% of humans throughout history, and then expect to have a perfectly healthy, normal, unjaded romantic life?
and then blame it all on society when it doesn't work out?

No, I've never had a "fuckbuddy."
I'm not particularly promiscuous. I had a 1.5 year relationship and a few that lasted a few months. The times I've had actual sex outside of a relationship, it was a relationship-track thing that didn't work out. I've made out girls in frathouse basements a few times, etc, but I wouldn't really call that promiscuous. And I stress that is not typical for me. I'm probably one of the most sexuality conservative people on this board, excluding people like SAD who just can't get laid.
I'm also not sure how you can read any of my posts in this thread as me blaming my woes on society (though I haven't read any of these posts for a few months so I expect you to quotepwn me shortly).
e: damn, rereading them they're some pretty PG13 emo shit.

the blaming society thing - ok that should be directed at others.
so what's your number (including hj, bj)?
if you've had like ~5 relationships or less, i can't imagine how you would feel emotionally numb about them unless you tend to treat women generally as sex objects, and are good at doing that.

Around 10 over 4-5 years of being sexually active, mostly in the first year of college before I settled down with someone. (So, that rate is not representative of how I conduct myself now.)
I'm not emotionally numb now, but I was pretty fucked in the head when I made this thread.
