if you look at the cooley tech transactions bros, they generally don't have STEM backgrounds. http://www.cooley.com/technology?Professionals=True

it's all about working out deals to buy ip from other companies so it doesn't really require you understand the technology--seems pretty formulaic and like it could lead to some sweet in-house gig.

i know some ip lit bros who placed well in-house at growth-stage tech companies that didn't know any better.

i mean the exit is supporting wanda in procurement at some f1000 in flyover.

depends on your expectations.

is it still friendly to non-stem bros (ip lit has gotten more and more stringent...)?

are clients less demanding than in other types of tranny? seems like they would be in less of a rush than m&a clients, for instance.

are the exit options mostly supporting F500 procurement agents or does it get sexier than that?

1. yes. i am not STEM and very few of the ppl i work with are STEM.

2. yes. typical tech transactions are much more routine and standard operations type shit in nature than shit like M&A where everyone is excited to get it done and have a lot riding on it closing.

3. yes. i'm inhouse and most of my work is in procurement. IMO they also don't pay as much as other inhouse roles but it's still decent and the hours are good and it's not too stressful. it just gets boring because almost all of the shit is the same and you end up arguing over the same few provisions and it all feels very routine after a while. i'm actually thinking about going back to do a PhD or do something to get out of it. it's not bad for a law gig though IMO and I feel pretty marketable.

are the lawyers you deal with outside your company only ever from big firms? what i mean is, is this only a biglaw practice area like m&a is?

no there's some smaller firms that we will deal with sometimes. but typically it is other inhouse attorneys (frequently) or less frequently BIGLAW/regional midlaw attys. if you mean our own outside counsel, it's BIGLAW yeah.

So it's completely disappointing if measured by the standard of your childhood dreams, but okay for a lawyer job.
