work is decreasing, albeit not dramatically... but there will probably be a ton of experienced 3rd-5th years to go around. why staff a first year, when all of a sudden 3rd years w/ a lot of experience are a dime a dozen?

I don't think its the way to go if you are just getting into biglaw now unless you have stellar credentials (e.g. a phd in something and a t14 degree)... or, somewhat paradoxically, if its your only hope of getting biglaw at all (e.g. a B.S. and a non-t14 degree).

Very little money in white collar either unless you are elite as fuck. Prosecutors are at least very employable.

CR

Elite IP lit groups are already retooling to add IPR practices. Those groups will be OK, since those groups will be a one-stop solution for both PTAB and district court litigation. Irell in particular appears to have made this transition effectively--it grew a top-notch Patent Owner-side IPR practice nearly overnight.

there will be no IP lit after Republicans get done gutting the patent system at the behest of Google, Facebook, Amazon, et al.

several lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the PTAB are brewing, and, who knows, maybe one makes it to the SCOTUS. the ptab will go never go away, but it might be reconfigured in the form of an advisory board.

I don't know man. This time practically their whole pharma litigation crew defected. That was a heavy hitting practice area for them. Their main ITC chick just left too.

Kenyon associates are freaking the fuck out and trying to get out while the getting is still good.

I don't think it has slowed down that much, but it was so hot 5 years that way too many people jumped in. The polysci bros with 5 years of experience doing cs/ee IP litigation work are probably fucked. But fears of the whole industry crashing down are unfounded.

patent lit filings are actually back up to 2013's record levels so far in 2015; on pace for about 6000 suits for the year...perhaps 2014 was just a down year

its a lie - the AIA made plaintiffs file multiple suits instead of one. So while the number of "cases" are up, after discovery consolidation, the real number will be down.

AIA went into place in 2012; the record was in 2013 (after AIA) and it dipped in 2014, but it's now back to 2013 levels
