I guess you would say we are on the early side of mid stage. It is pretty company specific when you start hiring in house lawyers. We are super IP heavy, so I was hired as a specialist even before we have a GC.

I do almost all of our US patent work in house. We use a big IP specialty firm to handle our foreign patent filings.

We use big firms for anything involving taking on additional investment, forming new subsidiaries, etc., and for certain larger deals with customers.

Well, for the IP I cut a pretty good deal with the IP bigtique, where we get reduced rates as a start up, on the theory that as we grow we will throw them a lot more work.

For the corporate stuff, it is largely driven by the fact that our founders/main investors had prior relationships with some big firms and were most comfortable with them.

Pretty much 9-5. It is infinitely more fun that law firm practice. I am one of 5 people in on all leadership discussions. I get to work with mostly smart excited 20 year olds. The technology is awesome, and a close match to my prior science background.

I don't know what to tell you. If you would rather spend all your time around middle aged lawyers droning on about their kid's private school tuition costs and how many hours they are billing rather than working with recent MSEE and PhD kids who are crazy excited about doing cool work then we are fundamentally different people.

You should be clocking north of 200K in salary, and at least 50k in options + bonus. For a position that senior 160K is peanuts. I hope your equity offerings are excellent.
