I actually wasn't expecting to be subject to the AMT now that I live in a state without state income tax, but I'm playing around with turbotax and looks like I will.

Anyone else want to bash this TTT?

EDIT: Actual Stats:

$250k W-2 income, $7k interest/dividends cap gains, total = $257k

$Itemized deductions = $20k ($2.5k sales tax, $11k property tax,$6k mortgage interest, $.5k charity).

I have none of the special stuff other than 2 kids. My property tax barely got above the standard deduction.

I think it is just the W-2 income doing all the work ($260k)

With no state income tax are you taking a sales tax deduction?

The charity and mortgage interest are irrelevant.

I got wiped out by AMT as well, but after paying $20,000+ in state taxes and $5,000 in property tax.

You should not be paying AMT with those deductions.

Ran it again, and I think it is the W-2 income. The AMT is a small amount right now (only $1000) but adjusting a bunch of other things like increasing dependents, etc. for sensitivity analysis results in the same overall tax.
