they are the most unreliable vehicle on the market by miles (unless some other land rover vehicle is ahead of the RR).

NEW range rovers have something like 340 repair issues per year per 100 cars. think about that for a second. for people buying/leasing a new one it's just a matter of hassle because the repairs are covered for the first howevermany years.

their resale value CRATERS as they come off lease compared to similarly priced benz/porsche/lexus/caddilac SUVs because the only people who will buy them are hood rich idiots who have no idea the transmission has 16 months to live and just want to ball out in a $49.5k range they lie and tell club skanks is new and bought for cash, not financed at 18.7% through wells fargo subprime.

sure, you can find an exception to any rule. maybe the right after market warranty will do it, or maybe OP is a skilled mechanic whose been working on british electrical systems and engines for years.

the fact remains that for most people a ~$50k used range rover fresh off its original lease is a ruinous trap vehicle waiting to feed on the blood of the unwary.

not unless you can pay cash for it and not miss that money at all.

stupid car to buy new. they depreciate a ton and break constantly.

soccer mom car in rich suburbs.

shit mpg (no tree-hugger, but getting low teens and filling up constantly sucks ass)

pointless off-road capabilities that you'll never use.

why do you want one? if you just want a comfy car to drive in the winter, get a 2-year-old E-class 4matic or Audi. if you are legit going to go off-road or want it for sports/activities, there are cheaper, better options like a Jeep or Land Cruiser.

also: I tend to associate these with flashy new money Russians/Jews or other unsavory types. not always the case but it kinda has that image.

They like any mid sized luxury SUV that can haul the kids but still make them feel like they're elite, as opposed to driving a minivan. The X5, Q7, and M class all fall into this category. Doesn't mean they are bad cars or that you shouldn't but them. For most people they are a sweet spot that includes performance, practicality and luxury. That said, the trademark of the soccer mom is that they always get the smallest engine available. Don't do that and you're good.

range rover and m4 shouldn't really be substitute goods unless your only concern is stunting on the 328i set so as to dominate the bigbrunch valet scene.

i'm actually looking at the m4. it's awesome to drive but i feel like they've completely exploded the "m" premium over the e93 generation and i'm worried about reliability in the first production year, especially with how keyed up they've got that 6 cylinder engine.
