Mr. Shanmugam joined Williams & Connolly in 2008 after serving as an Assistant to the Solicitor General in the Department of Justice. He was the first lawyer to join the firm directly as a partner for 22 years. Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, he received his A.B. summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1993; his M. Litt. from the University of Oxford, where he was a Marshall Scholar; and his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was executive editor of the Harvard Law Review. He clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and for Judge J. Michael Luttig on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

I'm far more impressed by a successful shitlaw solo king with no boss, building his own successful business, making biglaw partner money, than by some biglaw partner grinder doing paperwork at 11:00 on a Saturday night who will be long forgotten 5 days after he retires.
Try to make a mark on this world. Try to build something. Anyone with a servile attitude and a dogmatic attention to detail can do 4.0 UG Poli Sci-> T14 -> Biglaw firm -> service partner. It's not impressive. I'm only impressed by those who have built something for themselves. |

Very hard to get hired by these firms coming from biglaw though. They want ex prosecutors or insurance defense types. not arguing for biglaw, just saying, it's very pie in the sky to just fantasize about this awesome and easy world of lucrative PI practice. |
