Decided to invest 20k each day in whatever the highest gainer of the day list on fidelity homepage is. I wait until the first pull back from the time I check and put in until I hit 10%, then I'm out. Has worked for 2 straight weeks. How long before I go bust?

this doesn't make sense. GBSN gapped up on Friday then barely pulled back and traded flat for the rest of the day.

rough week last week. GBSN for 4.60 and this shit has been a stinker. never been higher.

off to a good start today with ICLD. In at 3.13 out at 3.77. I've changed the 10% cap to 30% as I've missed some huge swings lately by getting out too early. I still sell when I check and think, WHOA that's nice.

probably doesn't work well if you try to invest too much. most of the big gainers are in the $2-10 range and have low volume. a big order would swing things and you might get liquidity pwned. but if you're okay with making 1-2k a day, its been great thus far.

fidelity.com the top gainers/losers/volume stocks for the day are listed in the bottom right. the short term capital gains taxes would probably be brutal if you did this in a regular investment account.

I'm thinking of doing this in a non-401k account.

If making an average of 1000 a day, a 40% cap gains tax is not too much.

If you trade 350 days a year that over $200k post tax

Nah bro, what those articles are describing are month-to-month variations in stock performance. What you are doing is day trading and 99% likely to be complete bullshit. But the articles I linked to offer a glimmer of hope that markets are not perfectly efficient, and that stock movements might actually be subject to some patterns capable of exploitation for above-market gains.

What trading site do you use and can you explain to me like I'm 5 how to do this (how and when you pick the stock and what kind of trade you do).

I have about 35k in an etrade solo 401k and 35k cash. Two days ago I finally invested the entire 401k in VTI and it's up $500. But from what I understand, what I probably need to do is put the straight cash in VTI instead and just hold it, and do the trading inside the 401k.

This is a bizarre strategy. I guess it's a momentum strategy, but you could get blowed up, although if you're steady on the amounts invested maybe you'll be okay.

It is also a bull market, so it's only going to work in those.

I started to get pwned in December/January when the market would gap up and down throughout the day. I quit after losing back about 22k. I also got busy at work so I couldn't glare at the market all day. In the end I made almost 25k.

That's still really good. Why don't you pursue full time? Surely if you devoted some time you could make more?

I tried your method once and failed. I want to do this and quit job. Not as risk averse as you. Help meh?

All I really did was pick the highest stock of the day at 8:45am and wait for a pull back. Taking into consideration the volume of the stock. Someone made a comment that it only works in a bull market and based on Dec/Jan I think there might be truth to that.

I've had this idea for a couple years but never tried it. Nice to see it works IRL.

would you make a trade every day or just 3/wk to avoid the pattern day trader rule?

this is basically just a simplistic version of momentum trading

where people get into trouble is not selling immediately when it goes down

if you can do that, it doesn't seem like a terribly risky strategy
