I am an engineer. Take it from me, Phil->Law is a better option than Engineering ->Stay in Engineering.
Reasons: 1. Salary cap is much lower in Engineering compared to Biglaw/Good Boutique Law (30% in top 10 LS). 2. Fate of an old engineer is nothing short of shameful, barring few exceptions.
