On another note, why is it that there is no more edgy cinema any more? What the fuck happened to this country?

For a number of reasons, film financing has changed dramatically so that studios only produce films they consider "definitely profitable." That is why you see so many films that are either sequels of prior profitable films or based on popular franchises (these are seen as having a pre-existing audience attached to it). As a result, getting something unique and new made into a movie is really hard these days.

Also, TV has attracted a lot of top talent that would have went into the movies.

I think this is more of a symptom than a cause of what I described above. Franchise movies require fewer actors since the main roles are pre-populated.

It is probably both. The impact of the international market does constrain things for film directors but I bet there were many who prefer writing novels rather than short stories.

Requiem, now 15 years old, for all its flaws, is better than literally every movie I've seen in the last 10 years. Except for Shame (2009). Shame is better, hands down. But, nothing else is even the same league.

requiems is a great movie but nowhere close to top 10 or 15 great movies in the last 15 years. and if you include foreign cinema it wont crack top 50 either

the best movie imo in last 15 years is lives of others.

Fair opinion, but it can't be contested that (a) popular opinion names it as one of the best (minimum top 50ish) movies of the past 20-25 years, (b) it is not a "shit pure shit" movie.

Edgy movies have always been a difficult sell, but they're really hard to sell to those idiots on the international market.
