I work about 50 hours a week, not including the time I write up notes and charts, do CE, call and organize patients, and hound insurance for payment.

200K isn't average. It's more like 120-150K despite what any law experts think.

Imagine working 50 hours a week bent over, trying to control small factors that may mess up a restoration or treatment. Constantly under physical and mental strain. Being whipped by Insurance, boomer bosses, debt, rising costs just to stay in the profession.

Add that in with not getting laid and terrible back pain. I just don't see any happiness.

long term minor back pain as dentist = opiates no q's asked in long run. All about perspective.

Do you rubber dam isolate all your restorations? It slows me down, but it controls the tongue of patients who can't listen when you tell them to relax their tongue.

Only under extraordinary circumstances (uncontrollable salvia) do I rubber dam restorations. If I had access to isolite, however, i'd probably use it.

What made you decide to be a dentist? I thought this gig would be easy and pay well.

It's a good job, but you usually have to manage a whole stable of shrews between dental assistants, hygienists, receptionists. Lawyers just have one old/shrew paralegal to deal with.
