unless he wants to elite HF/PF you are not losing much by going to kellogg vs HBS for immediate career prospects
MBB recruit heavily there and it is all about your case interview performance
So he is not fcking up his career or life or anything
It comes down Harvard name vs your desire/need to get that law degree

i would make the HBS argument in the following way:
1. lot of people change their minds about what they want to do once they go to b-school and realize the options that are out there. ultimately, the purpose of the degree is to open as many doors as possible, both short and long-term. although he could certainly get something generic such as MBB or biglaw coming out of northwestern, the HBS name brand will give him more access to niche opportunities.
2. law is no longer the path to political power that it once was. the better way is to make a lot of money in the private sector, make connections with super wealthy people, and then run for office. the citizens united ruling completely altered the political landscape, and money (both having it and access to it) will be key to gaining power.
3. northwestern is obviously highly regarded in Chicago, but HBS is the one MBA degree that has tremendous power regardless of location. and since you can never predict what city you will end up in, why not get the degree that will open doors everywhere?
