was just at sacks fifth ave. and the salesman told me that I am not 40s. that i am 38R. the 40S that he gave me was actually wide in the shoulders and small in the chest because the button was too high. 38s might've been a little small in the chest too, but the lapels only bent when i retracted my shoulders(i.e. stand super straight). so is he right?

i do have a 40s suit at home that seems to feel about the same as that 38R... but that 38R is $500 and i wanted to buy 3 coats for a total of $500...

also was disappointed about the suits so forgot about the shirts entire.

what does it mean when it says for example 15.5 32 dress shirt? does it mean 15.5 neck and 32" waist? most of my shirts have no waist size, they are just "slim fit".. but the neck tends to be 15-15.5, yet when I measured my neck circumference with a ruler it is actually <15" but the shirts feel tight and I never button the top button.. so what is the size?

15.5 is your neck circumference, 32 is the length of the sleeve, measuring from the center of the upperback/neck, across the shoulder, down to the cuff.

thanks. yeah I just noticed I have it on my shirts. so all my shirts are 15.5 and they are extremely tight in the neck if I close the top button. but I never do, unless it's an interview. so should I get a 15 so the shirt is tighter below the neck, or get it at 16 so the button that I never use can be used? also there is a chance they are small at the neck because of shrinkage?

damn. just read that not only should shorts avoid plaid patterns. but also they should avoid sportcoat+trouser combos and even colors outside of conservative (navy). yep, I did notice in my limited experience that there is always something off about short guys wearing grey... and it must be even worse as a combo and with loud patterns.
