"Going in-house is a CAREER KILLER and something that has destroyed the careers, lives and families of more attorneys than I can count."

There should be a day of remembrance for all our brothers who lost their lives going in-house. Also like his use of FACT to show this is not flame.

He has an article where he compares being a lawyer to being in a pow camp and concludes being a pow is less stressful. Not flame. But also after I read it I kind of agreed.

They do, but it is a different setup that is far less lucrative for recruiters. In biglaw people move around often and firms readily pay large fees. In-house expects people to stick around for large periods of time and rely more on existing relationships, their HR department, plus will work with specific recruiters that agree to reduced fees.

Yeah but you're comparing journalists that actually have no clue to someone who at least has a clue but also has a personal agenda. Neither is exactly ideal.

Best line is: "If you are interested in politics and playing dishonest games with your time and legal matters, you should go in-house." LOL yeah not billing hours is the surest route to "playing dishonest games with your time and legal matters" and the politics at a law firm are basically imperceptible during the annual tug of war over partner draws.

This guy's premises are all wrong and his information is about 15 years out of date.

FACT: Almost no one makes equity partner. In-house is the only option for some people, and it certainly beats being a bitch service partner.

FACT: People going in-house to non-GC roles don't have clients. If they did, they could be better served by staying at a firm.

FACT: A majority of companies actually prefer in-house experience over law firm experience.

FACT: In-house still offers a lotto ticket (being GC) without demanding 80 hours of your life every week for years on end.

FACT: It doesn't matter if you become less skilled at niche areas of law. You become more skilled as a generalist, and that's what outside counsel is for.

Also, depending on the organization, there may be mobility within the company as well. I know a few in-house bros that have rotated between different depts.

In my limited experience, other in-house shops prefer getting someone from a rival to see how their rivals handle matters. Some people have left for 10 years bouncing around rival firms to return back at a higher paygrade and title.

This guy is 1000 percent flame. BCG is the worst placement org on the planet. He is sick and tired of dealing with attorneys wanting to go in-house so he started planting this false flag so he can get more maleable laterals, which is where he makes his money.

BCG is well documented flame. Do not work with this company.

This is totally correct. I once emailed to inquire about an in house posting and got a call back from someone at the sister firm lateral group within 30 minutes. Just started talking lateral shit to me and couldn't understand I only wanted in house. Knew nothing about the position I asked about and I wonder if it was even a real position. Eventually had to hang up on her

I'm now on their email list for the rest of time. Even after unsubscribing like 5 times. Company is shady as fuck

The only real downside is that you become lazy. IME, it has been because Business does not want to wait another day bc you need to check for misplaced modifiers or give one fresh review in the am, they just want something that will let them provide services or bill.

When I was in Biglaw, the inhouse attys that returned were a bit sloppy.

Yea, I have become lazier overtime. I sometimes send docs to the counterparty's BigLaw outside counsel. They normally get all the small shit: straight quotes, two spaces instead of one, etc. I know, however, that they are getting praised for being so diligent. My boss or business ppl would be like, "is it important? If not, just go with it and send us PDFs to sign." A much more relaxed environment.
