For starters, check out the graphs at the top of this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerkes–Dodson_law

Even in the web of fraud&lies (err, "science") that is ADHD, we have the IRON LAW of diminishing returns to arousal, then negative returns.

Whether you took it during finals only, before a big brief, or daily, can you honestly say they turned you from a B performer to an A student?

Because the actual science shows that the typical user is a rabid procrastinator who gets Bs but would've otherwise gotten Cs. For them, it's the difference between churning out 30pgs of mumble jumble vs turning in nothing.

But on time-restricted, cognitively demanding tasks (eg LSAT, 3hr law school exams), it pushes your natural game day adrenaline and anxiety overboard right into the negative returns phase, where you write the FUCK out of your current train of thought, which you think brilliant in the moment but is actually incoherent. Then you run out of time to answer the last 3rd of the test/task, much less edit your initial spew of nonsense.

If it did unequivocally improve your performance in one area of your life, you'd still be on it. Might as well devote a lifetime to it.

So, how do you discontinue it without turning into a listless puddle who never leaves his basement or experiences meaningful human contact?

Oh, what a coherent "science"!

I forgot that Adderall can have the "paradoxical" (ie, totally inexplicable) effect of "calming" actual ADHD-havers!

It magically "treats" ADHD concurrently with its "comorbid" disorders, anxiety and depression!

Shouldn't benzos & SSRIs be out of business?

that's not what i'm saying lieutenant dipshit. amphetamines are powerful drugs and it's unpredictable as to how any individual will react (even if you can predict trends for a population). some people may get the perk of added focus while feeling less of the "scatterbrain" side effect.

I took adderall everyday throughout 1L year. It undoubtedly improved my concentration and performance. I was in the top 5% of my class 1L year and I wrote onto law review. However there were some definite side effects: I was noticeably meaner to my girlfriend (would scream at her when she interrupted my studying) and I was easily distracted by non-schoolwork related things (I could go off on a tangent and spend 6 hours reading about history on Wikipedia when I was supposed to be working). I was able to cut out the distractions mainly by going to a library without wifi internet when I was studying. I stopped taking it after 1L year BC I figured my law school grades didn't really matter at that point.

The 6hrs reading Wikipedia instead of working: how did you avoid duplicating that on eg a 3hr exam where you spend 2hrs writing "XO scholarship" instead of actually answering the question? Then you only have 1hr left to answer the actual question?

Or, on the L Rev competition: How did you avoid getting suckered in reading forever about scholarship and not actually writing anything?

So you only took it your 1L year, and not before or since? How'd you quit so easily after 1yr of daily use? Did you just stop going to the doc for refills?

After you quit, did you turn into a useless, lazy sack of shit for your 1L summer job & 2L Fall?

And why havent you gotten back on in your biglaw job and top the associates' billing chart?

So you

When I took it every day I was able to learn to Use it very effectively I had no problem acing law school exams with it. I also didn't find it addictive at all, to answer your other question. When you first take adderall there is a euphoric effect, but that goes away after the first few times. I didn't use caffeine at all while on it and when I stopped taking it I just switched back to caffeine. I didn't have any urges to take the addy again or anything. Actually, it was kinda of nice to be off it: I felt more creative, impulsive, spontaneous, etc. I actually think I am better at my biglaw job at critical thinking and writing without addy than I would be on it. Now doc review is another story (addy would help great with that), but I've never found it necessary to use addy at work. It's not the same sort of pressure cooker of competition that law school was and I really haven't had to do that much grunt work at the firm over the last few years. One thing to note is that decongestants like Claritin D have a very similar effect to adderal. I did take that a few days during 24 hour work sessions when we were in trial (to stay awake).

Re acing LS exams: So you didnt get tunnel vision thinking and write completely irrelevant paragraphs, only realizing that you're running out of time when it's too late?

And what euphoria are you talking about? You mean the optimistic, "I can do this," on top of the world feeling?

1. No that didn't happen at all. There is a thing called dosage. Your doctor will prescribe you the right dose for your body weights so things like that don't happen. It's an RX medication, not some street drug sold to you by Darnell.

2. Yes. It only happens the first time you take it though, or if you take it after having not taken it for a long time.

A doc RXed it to me as well but I invariably took LESS than prescribed on most days...except before exams, when I more or less scaled up to my "prescribed" dose.

The tunnel vision/scatterbrain effect happens at RX doses too

I'm in the "ADHD is a fraud" camp. See my other thread.

But do you realize that if you were to tell a millenial convinced that he has ADHD that he just has a weak constitution and needs to suck it up, you'd be slammed with "marginalization of a mental illness"?
