Subject: while working full time

I've already poasted before, but could use some more advice from the Saturday xo crowd...not just the over-stimmed bros on at 3am (they did give good advice though).

I have a 180 job (60hrs a week though). Failed bar on first attempt by about 40 points; not the only reason, but my mother copped that stage iv cancer and studying in the hospital with her doing chemo wasn't the best environment. Jerb doesn't require me to be barred, but I want to be before my mother goes.

The material still seems relatively fresh, long essays fucked me last time prob. b/c I was distracted as fuck during the test. I have to work at least 50hrs a week until the bar.

How do I effectively cram for the bar in 3 weeks? I'm not some beta-bitch complainer - will do what I need to do - I just don't want to waste any fucking time. Thanks bros.

what's the oldest age generally acceptable to be a jd assistant? assume jd did 4 years of biglaw after law school to pay off loans first.

It's really a first gig for ppl just out of school from what I've seen. cheap labor for the agencies/business affairs departments while the jd learns the how the industry works. I've seen a few around 30 who are still assistant level, but most either give up on the "dream" or are promoted/lateral into a position.

Don't think it would be worth it for a 4th year to become an assistant. Depends on what your end game is.

how did you get the position - family/friend of family connection?

also do you mind saying what the position title is generally if not business or legal affairs, or the type of employer (agency, production company, studio, etc)?

Got lucky and applied out of the blue, but my work experience got me the job. Before/during law school I usually got the first interview on my own, then used family/friend connections to make sure I got it.

Before lawl school I worked for a bit in the industry. Father is an attorney. Now I'm law adjacent...but for the bar, and a better opportunity...and that's a hard sell at this point.

Don't want to get too specific. Any one of the jobs you listed works well enough though. Entertainment industry consultant isn't too far off. I'll answer any ?'s you have about getting a job in entertainment just don't want to totally fucking out myself, which I've prob. already done...but fuckit.

it was just a good description of what we do, while trying to be vague. Talent management and business affairs/legal affairs type work (not in-house). Small office. Why?

just curious about what type of places generally and which types of nonlaw positions in entertainment generally like jds without necessarily making them start as assistants

for sure. mixture of production and talent work for us, and some of the other nonlaw jds I've seen. A lot go into music management actually, others into international distribution/sales, talent management/agent (usually the assistants, but have a shot at young partnership), the rest into entertainment law.

I mean, usually the assistant route is how ppl get their foot in the door, then that parlays into something. I had a bit of experience beforehand so I was able to skip a step.

can you suggest a good resource to find music management or international sales/distribution companies and job ads? How much do either of these roles typically pay/how is comp structured (commission only, etc.)

Less importantly, can you roughly say what that prelaw school experience was? Not trying to get outable info, just want to see if there's something analogous that can be spun so that the assistant step could be skipped.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd go to outlinedepot.com and buy the complete set of Cali outlines for like $175-200. Just read those over and over and over until you memorize everything and you should be good to go. Maybe do some MBE questions and 1-2 performance tests just to get your timing down or whatever.

All of this should take you a total of 150-200 hours.
