Basically, I'm a skinny fat. I'm 5'10 165lbs but probably like 18-22 percent body fat. I feel like if I can torch 10-15lbs of body fat I would be lean as fuck and have the body of a European soccer player. Anyone try/succeed with low carb dieting? How many net carbs can I consume? and can I gradually work my way up to eating moderate level of carbs after a while without undoing any potential gains?

Thank you brothers.

im skinny fat also. back when the whole atkins thing was going on, i thought it was complete flame so for three months i tried it. stuck with the low carb, mostly protein diet (not that kind of protein fking xo assholes), and i dropped 15 lbs. no joke. gained some of it back but not all and have watched my carbs ever since.

A lot of people who claim to be doing "low carb" are actually just eating a normal, healthy amount of carbs. It's like they stop stuffing bread in their mouth and suddenly they are low carb. You won't need to go extreme to lose weight. 100 grams a day or less is fine, and it's what I do as a runner. Even when I stopped running I kept up the carbs and lifted and didn't gain weight. You can even eat pasta as long as you stick to the recommended serving size of 2 ounces.

If you are skinny fat, you have no muscle to cut down to. You need 3 months of a LEAN bulk (Maintenance to 250 calories over maintenance).

Above advice is CR. I'm taking in 260g of carbs a day at the moment, with an equal amount of protein. Carbs are generally clean (oats, potatoes, fruit) Get most of my fats from healthy fats (avocado, egg yolk, nuts).

Weight loss is about calorie reduction no matter what diet you use. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of shit. For example:

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/90/1/23.short

http://www.nutritionandmetabolism.com/content/3/1/7

A low carb diet may make it easier to reduce calories by regulating your hunger cravings or just make you more mindful of what you're snacking on. But calories are still king.

I lost a lot of weight doing low carb a few years ago. I was eating all kinds of crap but just no carbs. it's great because my ass would explode like 30 min after every meal so it was like having bulimia but through my asshole.

Slow carb is credited. The idea behind slow carb is to consume fewer carbs in general but more importantly to consume carbs that help keep you satiated. This means low glycemic index foods like beans and lentils.

yes to 1 and 4 ^^^

if you are serious about it maybe worth meeting with a nutritionist once to get an idea of meal plans, or download an app to help

it's really not that bad, i didn't limit carbs but by limiting fat that does impact carbs, i never limited calories or how much i ate though - always ate to satiation. no french fries, no milkshakes, no burgers, no pizza, no cheese except lowfat string cheese for the protein; lots of grilled chicken, grilled fish, eggwhite omelettes, veggies without butter or sauce.
