There's not a bunch of oil that's just out there in barrels that the market needs to work off. There's an ocean of easily accessible oil underneath Saudi Arabia. They can pump more of it or less of it. The lower the price is, the more market share they have and the more things stay the same (them being obscenely rich). The higher the price goes, the less market share they have, and the more people invest in electric cars and shit that makes them poorer. Crude oil is not as fungible as one would believe. there are different types of crudes. They vary slightly but even a small variance requires different types of refineries. When Saudis lose market share, what that means it that the buyer is making a bet on some other country's oil. The buyer will need to tweak his refinery according to the new country's product. Or perhaps create an entirely new refinery. Lot of money spent. Once they have made this bet, they aren't going to be able to quickly turn around and go back to Saudi oil. The time frame on these investments are a couple of decades. So if Saudis say they are going to pump less, some country like India might have to go buy from maybe Venezuala to make up the shortfall. The Indian refineries that move to Venezuelan crude, they are not going back to Saudi crude for a couple of decades now. Saudis have experience with this. what if I took that same 10K and spread it across RSPP, PE, FANG, CXO, XEC, MTDR? all hold derisked pure Permian fairway acreage. all have low debt by comparison and will almost assuredly be around in 3 years. all are still in favor relatively speaking but discounted.
which would give me the better chances of making the most $ in 3 years. i bet you can't even answer this intelligently. |
