Just have a good cry. No one will hold it against you if it's done in a reserved fashion.

About 20 mins ago, I was starimg at monitor doing deposition prep. I started to think about loans, deteriorating relationships and the absolutely pointless nature of this whole shit. I tear fell down my eye. But not time for crying, back to work.

my life would otherwise be pretty good. Work just sucks. You just feel like you are working so hard, and are still disappointing people, because there is just too much to do and you can't do it fast enough.

It's make work. We *need* air and water. We do not need someone to track down some shitty cases for a soon-to-be-unused memo.

Well, TBF, my clients do need their deals done...by me or someone else...if not me, they'll just go to another firm, and I'll be a disappointment.

As I've grown more experienced I've learned to push deadlines and not sweat it. If I don't feel like doing something by the next day I'll just fire off an email and say it won't be done. But I realize that's not always possible, especially in a firm environment or as someone more junior.

Yes, I can certainly just keep pushing stuff off and the clients would probably put up with it, which I do, but it is stressful to know that if literally no more work came in (which won't happen), it would take me three weeks to get everything done that I currently have on my desk as of today....

I know what you mean. I always promise myself to pull like 3 all nighters and just clear everything. But even if I did my bad habits would just cause another accumulation. Shit is never ending.

I have bad habits. Some days I just don't feel like doing anything and basically check out except for doing bare minimum like e-mail, conference calls, etc. to keep things moving.

The worst part for me is when I am at 110% max capacity, already overflowing, and someone just comes in and gives me shit and then walks out saying nothing.

It's not just the work then. It's dehumanizing.

cr

I knew a junior (female) associate a few years behind me in BIGLAW who used to sit in her room crying when it was all too much for her. Silly girl should have gone and cried in the ladies' bathroom. Soon she was known as the "girl who cries" and she was encouraged to pursue alternative career options.
