In good systems, they also get a smaller % of the product sold by underlings that their underling recruits. The underlings have to spend $$$ to buy the product themselves to get "used to it" so they can really sell it. Additionally, if you're person A, it's hard to break into person B's circle of friends. If you recruit person B, though, that person suddenly will happily break into that circle of friends. And even if circle B's friends only buy once, that's a big influx of cash. So person A's best plan of attack is to recruit person C and person D and person E. Each ends up doing the grunt work to attract the new customers to A's benefit. |

The second one is now called World Ventures. It is a discount travel club. You pay for a membership, and get access to discounted travels. The shitty part is that the travels are during off-peak months, and I mean off-fucking-peak. Example, discounted airfare and hotel prices for a late-January trip to Finland. I've been to Finland in late January, it is fucking cold and icy everywhere. They probably could have copped a similar deal using something like gate1 or applevacations.
I recently got engaged, and my future in-laws came to meet my family. During dinner, they were trying to get them on World Ventures. I could tell my inlaws were uncomfortable with it, so I had to drag them away. They alienate so many people. Even if they only met you once, they will hound you with texts and emails about joining or coming to a World Venture session at someone's house. |

Only one (Rodan + Fields) did I have to unfollow on FB b/c it was like 10 posts a day about the products. They post pictures claiming they're real results from direct friends, but my guess is they're stock shopped photos from the company and they're given people to tag for promotion.
I've also read that for some (like R+F) you have a quota you have to meet each month, like $160 in sales. And if you miss that quota ONCE, you will lose EVERYONE downstream from you (so all sellers that you recruited and get a cut from). So most have to supplement that amount themselves just to make sure they don't lose out on anything. People bankrupt themselves on this stuff, but it's a cult with a community and they will defend it to the death. You literally have to have an intervention for some people to get out of it.
Cracked had a great article about this in the spring (before they turned super shitlib). They said something like 99% of people LOSE MONEY on these things. The only way to make money is to get in really early. Otherwise the market saturates and there's no one left to sell to.
