I thought the guy was out on disability or something, but apparently nypd proles can retire after 20 years. This guy became a cop at 21 and was "retired" at 41. He was a lieutenant, which is a pretty low rank from my understanding.
His pension is $97,000/year and he had an additional $600k in retirement accounts. I told him that 41 was pretty young to retire and asked what he was going to do; he said he lined up a gig as a director of security for a small hospital near his near home for 78K/year. He was laughing at how easy his new gig will be schedule-wise, compared to his cop job.
Sh1t like this piss me off. How the hell does society justify GED grads making this kind of money? Granted it's not much, but for a semi-literate prole with no student loans?

(Calls someone a prole)
(That person doesn't work and makes $97k a year pension with $600k retirement)

It's not as common as the Op. He went out on disability. Pension is therefore 3/4 not the typical 1/2.
Lieutenant is the highest paying rank in the nypd when u include overtime.
You also need a 4 year degree.
So it's ridiculous but not common like the Op makes it out to be. Most people get around $50k pension.

is there a reason you think your comment is responsive at all to what I said? let's sum up the conversation:
dood 1: military retirement is after 20yr
dood 2: military retirement is not good
me: yes, it is good
you: *sticks own dick up asshole and then in mouth to lick off the santorum*

people need to stfu with lieutenants and acting like they aren't prole.
the exam may be comprehensive, but it requires zero critical thought. the questions are more or less "what is section x of the ny penal code?" straight memorization - similar to a second grade spelling bee (actually, the spelling bee could involve sounding it out, so it's more difficult).

I played cards with a dude from Chicago the other day who was in a similar situation, though he's been on much longer. still going to retire a young dude. he's been in for 23 yrs, getting out in 2.
Says he goes to Arizona every three weeks. Sounded like he has another house out there based on the conversation he was having with someone across from him.
One laughable thing he's doing with all his money is putting his daughter through law school at sticker....at COOLEY. She's going into 3L and he's already paid $120k.
