I don't know who I should even be most angry at.
Should I be mad at NY BOLE for giving us a bunch of essays which consisted almost exclusively of insanely detailed distinctions, some of which they have literally never tested before?
Should I be mad at NCBE for taking the opportunity to introduce Civ Pro with questions so difficult Chem himself would be mouthing "what the eff" while doing them?
Should I be mad at Barbri for completely dropping the ball and wholly failing to prepare us for either, despite giving us rage strokes over the last two months with their insane workload and terribly written questions?
Should I just be mad at myself for expecting anything different / willingly subjecting myself to this?
Someone must be blamed. I have some soul searching to do.

Not quite related, but this is hilarious (and thank God I didn't take Kaplan)
Last night got an email from our regional director, recommending (among other things) that we look at a couple of MBE questions the morning of. Attached were several questions... with no answers?!
You may have seen these questions before, and purposely I DID NOT provide answers. What makes this so important is looking at the question BEFORE you go to the exam site. Get your brain moving before question 1. This activity WILL create more points on MBE day!
Ok then...?

lol no. SELF STUDY! I know it sounds scary, but in 80% pass jx, you'd be an idiot to spend your own money on a prep course.
In most jurisdictions, getting like 30%ile on the essays and a scaled MBE of 140 is AUTO PASS. 30%ile counts a bunch of retakers and FOREIGN kids, both groups only pass like 30% of the time anyway. So you have to do better than like 10-15% first-time takers. lol. Are you dumb? That's NOTHING.
A 140 on the MBE is like 65% correct. lol That's INSANE!
You know how to get to 65? Answer 57/190 of the questions correctly and then for the 133 questioning remaining, just eliminate 2 option choices, and then RANDOMLY GUESS! lol

Well, at n=50, 74% of us found the MBE harder than expected.
From a crowd that's probably over prepared compared to the nationwide average, I'm holding out hope for a generous curve.

I thought the MBE was hard as fuck and I copped a 178 on it 2 years ago. People exaggerate difficulty after test day.
I thought the NY essays were pretty easy though.

I just don't get it. How can someone take that many practice tests/questions and then not see more than 2-3 questions that look similar to PREVIOUS exam questions? Just doesn't make sense, and if they're going to alter the exam question style that much, they should at least make sure they aren't worded ambiguously.
Yeah, I'm more than a little pissed about it. Working so hard for essentially no benefit is pretty shitty. Why did I even do practice tests at all, they were practically worthless.
It doesn't help my anger that I was seated right by a proctor station, so at any given point in time there were 6 proctors pretty much hovering over me whispering or pacing or just staring right at me. Then everyone freaking out b/c a power cord got unplugged or a power strip dies. Very incompetent and unprofessional administration the last two days.

I'm probably in the minority, but I didnt think it was that bad. I think part of the collective perception of difficulty is probably just a result of remembering hard questions and not the easy ones. When I finished both sessions I remember thinking there were a ton of close calls and that the exam had been hard, but when I went back and counted up the questions, I had marked over 50% as ones I was 95-100% confident on and only 25% or so as 50/50 toss ups with the rest inbetween. Even though I had been marking easy questions as I went along I had totally forgotten about them until I went back.
I also thought the Barbri questions weren't that far off from what we saw. I tested pretty well on the Barbri exams though (169 simulated and 78 refresher) and have always focused more on memorizing BLL than improving through seeing more questions, so YMMV.
I'm sure you enjoy a well-balanced diet and adhere to a rigorous exercise regime as well. Congratulations! You, sir, have won!
lol ya seriously like wtf? "Quit bitching, I got an awesome score."
Yeah seriously...good for you dude...I am sure you are very happy with your performance.
