Cop pseudo-job to hide unemployment?

Eventually want to move into corp law / emerging company / entrepreneurial role. Thoughts on the following ideas to let me vacation at will for 3 months without the dreaded gap:
1) Partner I'm good friends with left to start own firm. Does both P and D side stuff. I could work there for ~ 10-20 hours a week on average. How bad would being a P lawyer look if I'm looking for an actual job?
2) Friend owns jewelry store. Could sell some jewelry once a month and develop his website.
