I honestly don't get it. Why listen to some guy read a book when you can just read it yourself?

I don't really get them either. I guess on your commute or something but my mind tends to wander unless I'm actually reading, and anything I really wanted to read I would feel like I might be missing something

I was thinking the same thing, except the exact opposite. I don't know why someone would read/strain their eyes, etc. when they can have someone read it to them at 1.5x speed.

The other day, I decided that I wanted to learn everything about American history. So I popped in a 30 hour audiobook and throw on my beats and let it do while I lay in bed and relax.

You should really be reading a lot faster than they are speaking it to you brother. Ljl@ your reading capabilities.

Sorry I wasn't raised a chinese robot or a hebrew. I was grown up to play sports and chase attractive women. I read at a normal level, despite making a lot of money. I rather someone read to me (i.e. like a Nordic King) as opposed to be the reader (i.e. jewish servant).

You never listen to an audiobook instead of reading a book.

I can read the equivalent of ~300 pages a week just while I do shit like get ready in the morning and falling asleep and talking a mid-day walk.

I've read like 100 books I otherwise would not have read. How is this not credited?

I'm not sure just listening to someone read a book really qualifies as having read it. I feel like you lose a lot from not actually reading and absorbing the words yourself.

when the reading is done well (about 10% of audiobooks) it's like a great performance. it's enjoyable to listen to a story being told by a good storyteller.

the written word is actually a shitty knockoff technology, meant to replicate oral storytelling.

audiobooks are a return to the 'real' thing. humans evolved to enjoy oral storytelling.
