The only non Anglo Paris firm that has prestige is darrois.

Gide and salans are shit and don't pay market.

U.S. Firms pay us market in Paris which is enormous for france. Brit firms are next best. There are also smaller Australian or international firms that I didn't know in the U.S.

The french lawyers have just as many late nights. I think the differences are the emphasis on FaceTime and the lack of support that in NYC makes the lifestyle remotely bearable. No seamless (yes I know the online options are growing but still shitty when working late and don't want pizza or sushi), no black cars, stores are closed on Sunday (though this is also changing), no delivery services for stores like you have in NYC, basically life with big law hours in Paris makes regular day to day stuff really hard.

But vacations are sacred.

How close to market are Gide and Salans (Dentons, right?)...and I don't need the support if I don't have to be in the office all the time.

Vacations...nice.

Did you work in Paris, or just know the lay of the law over there.

Have you lived in Paris or France before? It's a great place to visit on vacation but living there is a pain. Especially if you are coming from the U.S./NYC, especially if you are working at a law firm. There aren't doormen to receive your packages (though good concierges do exist). Dry cleaners don't deliver anyways. plus all the reasons I mentioned before. Living in Paris is flame. Only good thing is now the usd is strong so it's cheaper than it used to be, but I guess you'd be paid in euros anyways so wouldn't matter for you.

Unless you have strong family ties, a personal reason for relocating to France, or are being temporarily/finite term sent there by your current firm, not sure why anyone would want to switch firms to go there.

Also if you are getting hired as local hire I suspect they would want you to do The bar equivalency and become profession liberale - I'd put that off as long as you can because it will reduce your take home and make it easier for them to get rid of you without notice.

"international law" is not actually flame over there. lots of cases that originate in french courts get kicked over to EU tribunals and courts in brussels (especially) or luxembourg, or occasionally the UN system in geneva.
