About 17K, including 401k. Big tech in-house. Loans paid off. First 3-4 years out of law school, I was probably saving 2K per month. Getting that monkey off my back really accelerated things.

Yes, between base salary, RSUs and bonus, that's where I have ended up last couple of years. Got lucky on RSU's, as I joined the company right before last tech boom. Stock has more than tripled in value since I started.

How the fuck can married people who generally have joint bank accounts/credit cards possibly separate out their wife's finances from their own?

I try to save all that I can because I hate work and working and want to quit or at least cut way, way back closer to 50-55 than 65. I spend a lot on our house, but have otherwise cut out most consumption other than basics. My TVs are 7-10 years old, >80% of my work clothes are ones that I bought when I just started working (frayed beltloops and nasty collars), weekend apparel is almost all from college except for a few gifts, and I never go out for fancy meals other than our anniversary. I have one hobby but otherwise don't really spend money on myself because I realized that it doesn't really make me happy.

my after tax pay checks are $6800 every other week. (already fully funded my 401K this year)

I dont have any fixed expenses other than my car insurance and a $200 student loan payment. My gf pays rent and internet. my firm pays for my phone and dinner. i almost never drive and havent filled up my gas tank or driven my car since early july.

my credit card bill seems to always add up to around $3500. gifts, dinners, bars, going out, uber, itunes.

i also constantly lose small sums of money (hundreds of dollars) on shitty stock bets

Fuck a lot of you guys. We do about $2k/month, not including 401k, equity in the house, student loans or end of year bonus (which, I suppose is a copout since that would add quite a bit to this). If all of that is included then probably $5-7k/month. However, house renovation expenses have been sapping this lately so a lot of months we have been breaking even or even negative.

We net about $15k/mo combined. we save on average like $4-5k/mo depending on expenses. Mortgage/property taxes ($4500) and daycare ($2k/mo) are biggest expenses.

In December my entire post tax bonus is saved.

We put about $60k/year combined in 401k (includes match and profit sharing).

Target is roughly $250-275k/year not counting 401k.

The average American saves 2.4% of their after tax income which might as well be 0

Wife and I save $2k to $2.5k per month, but we have two young kids and live in a low COL city. Will be $1k more when the mortgage is paid off in a couple years. I still feel inadequate after reading this thread.
