How tough to get BIGFED or JAG from T14?

I've always been interested in gov/military-type of work. What's the bar for getting fed/jag right out of school? Lower T-14 here (MVB). |

Air Force especially - that's the branch that requires the least physical activity so it got the most apps.

I don't think there's much in the way of exit options outside of the military. |

If you can stick out a year or two of biglaw, clerkship, or some kind of impressive non-profit gig, you'll have a lot easier time getting into bigfed. Essentially they cut a check for $60k directly to your student loan servicer within the first year of active duty service. I don't know application numbers for Army/Air Force last year.
Navy is not currently offering SLRP. Our most recent application numbers were somewhere around 550 for about 18 slots. Back in 2010-2012 it was something like 1500 applications for 18 slots.
The Army and Air Force JAG are about twice the size of Navy JAG.
The Air Force and Army JAG handles a wider ranger of legal issues (personnel, contract, etc.). The Navy focuses on military justice (courts martial/nonjudicial punishment), ethics, operational law, environmental law, and admin law.
Don't rule out any branch of service just because you don't consider yourself the typical military candidate. My branch cares most about whether you can work well with a team, that you are open to moving anywhere, that you are capable of being developed into an organizational leader, and that you competent/intelligent. Law school name and rank aren't nearly as important. Assuming you have decent LSAT, good grades, and seem like a good fit, you should apply. Once you do the interview, that will give you a better idea as to how you mesh with the organization. |

The only way to find out is to apply.
Anecdotally it seems they don't care where you went to law school as long as it is ABA-accredited. I have seen guys with middling grades from crap schools get selected over YLS grads. |
