Columbus had no part in discovering America in any way, shape or form. The Americas were discovered some 250 centuries ago by travelers from eastern Asia who likely crossed on foot across a theorized land bridge. These people relatively quickly populated the American continent from North to South, numbering anywhere from 50-75 million by the time of Columbus’s first encounter with the Arawak people of the Bahamas in 1492. redchinks no more "discovered" america than a troop of baboons "discovers" a new territory it migrates to in search of food or shelter. they weren't scientists or explorers and had no concept of or interest in the globe

columbus actually did set out to discover something although what he in fact discovered was not what he was looking for

For the greatest and most detailed examination of the evidence of claims for pre-Columbus travel to America see the late Dr. Ivan Van Sertima’s monumental 1976 publication, They Came Before Columbus: the African Presence in Ancient America.

In fact when he first set sail on a quest for gold, Columbus’s original destination was East Asia, which he believed he’d reach by traveling west and circling the world. Once he’d reached the shores of the Bahamas by way of the Canary Islands, he was certain he’d found a western route to India (thus, the reason he dubbed the islands the “West Indies” and its inhabitants “Indians”). The first time he stepped foot on Cuba he believed he’d come upon the island nation of Japan. [Clarke, John Henrik. (1993). Christopher Columbus and the Afrikan Holocaust: slavery and the rise of European capitalism. Page 31]

I'll bite on this flame - you don't think that Columbus opened up the Americas for trade, exploration and conquest - and that access to the Americas was the greatest single change in European history - in every possible way, meaning political, financial, religious, culinary, etc.?

For one:

EDIT:

Look at how many of those items are associated with traditional European cuisine, like tomatoes. Or, think of the shrews of the past who suffered without their pumpkin spice for all those years.

Blah, colonialism at any time is pretty complicated and it's pretty hard to categorize something like that as positive or negative. But, if you're a shitlib, your feeble brain can only process "positive" and "negative" - with nothing in between, so how's this:

To the extent that European colonialism was an issue in the ongoing conflict between the European powers, and that competition for colonies was a contributing factor in WWI and WWII - a period of conflict and upheaval which was probably the worst thing to ever happen in Western Civilization - it was negative.
