Never start a bulk unless you're at around 10% BF.

Stop what you're doing. Diet down to 10% while improving strength and mind-muscle connection, and then bulk once you hit 10%.

Yeah, that's what the old guys did too. They didn't change what they ate (none of the low-carb flame), if they wanted to gain they ate a bit more, and vice-versa. Most of the time they ate just 3 meals also, and lifted heavy and strong without the 20-50 rep bullshit.
