and i don't look to the socio-political order as a means of deriving reward. the purpose of governance is to enable its governed to seek reward. i've been able to find a comfortable position in the system. i think on *internal* reflection you might be on your way to finding the same thing. but projecting private irritation on the social system is a category mistake. |

As a set of memes Islam is competing against a shifting cultural wasteland in the west. Think of a decaying Roman empire vs. the all encompassing life directing meme package of Christianity. If you have a coherent set of ideas which lead to organization and accumulation of followers against a society that is cultureless and officially ambivalent about picking cultural winners and losers, the meme package of Islam will win every time. This competitive edge is evidenced by all of its history as well as making intuitive sense.
Private behavior as an actor is about asserting your interests, not the interests of others. I can't help you help yourself. There is significant upside and almost no downside in the current system to adhering to Islam.
