And that was years ago. Since then, I surprised her with an in-person visit once (needed something, then hightailed it out of there in <5mins while she was in tears at her workplace, LJL).
And an email every 2-3months, never initiated. Always in reply to her email saying something like "I just bank transferred $500 into your bank account, please reply to confirm that you got it & that account is still yours (since we haven't spoken in so long."
I reply "Got it. Thank." Then radio silence until the next one.
Hope she enjoys Officer Jones's company without me being there. |

But course offerings are slimmer than I had thought, and I'd be bored to death if I had to sit through eg "Inner City Poverty."
SecReg is somewhat relevant to my interests, but my primary concern is that, as you pointed out, my having not mastered the art of LS exam taking by now will bite me in the ass esp given the class roster. |

Last semester, a class whose class sessions made me zone out, but whose content were at least amenable to my psychostudy sessions--I did well in that class.
Another class's in-class discussions etc were more lively but I could not for the life of me bring myself to read the textbook more than cursorily, thinking I can "just make it up," or "I already know what I need to know." |

But her preferred method of dispute resolution, which she employed over and over, was calling Officer Jones. Once she did that, I'd be like "ok enjoy chatting with them. I'm going to a friend's house to play Playstation. I'd give you the friend's name and address, but...sorry, just slipped my mind." Then I'd come back when the dust settled.
At the time, she was MAF that infancy is an absolute defense, even if her allegations were true.
So my preferred method of communication with her is: NO communication.
She left me a voicemail after I disinvited her from college graduation despite "promising" her she can come, only to tell her "sorry ma, traded your tix for a Snickers bar." I felt bad as I did it, but I haven't since. What I say to her when she tries to say "let bygones be bygones" is "well if you didn't want this to happen, you should have thought about this before."
But let me give you an update: my mom's bday has since passed, and I still haven't replied to her email essentially begging me to go see her for the first time in years. In fact, I haven't even logged into the throwaway email I created just for her so she doesn't know my real email, and that I'll delete once I no longer need her tax returns.
Instead, I'm just going to reply in a few weeks: "Tax Return?"<--and she thinks I need it because it qualifies me for a "lower interest rate," instead of the coming year's financial aid which she's still in the dark about. For all she knows I'm working on a coal mine in Ohio.
Then it's either k thnx bye or "you don't want to give it to me unless I see you? nbd. Enjoy Officer Jones's company." |

Same goes for her. I'm sure you're right that years later I'll regret totally severing ties with ALL family, but I'll deal with that regret when the time comes.
Right now, she can wallow knowing that she could have had kids who do the normal routine: off to college, but still come back for breaks. Snap pictures at their graduation. In their mid20s, visit for Thanksgiving/Bdays/etc. Hear "mom, I'd like you to meet Elizabeth." etc.
But no, *she* threw that away, so why should I be saddled with guilt & regret for her choices? She can live out her barren years alone, with a lifelong of regrets (if I were to take a step back as a neutral observer, I can acknowledge & maybe even sympathize that she hasn't had it easier) |

Statute of Limitations: the ProsBros needed to have commenced prosecution/issued a warrant within X years since the most recent allegation (which was coincidentally the last time I spoke to her face-to-face). X years have lapsed, but no warrant no nothing. And they gave up on reasonable diligence to ascertain my location, so tough luck.
"Why should I tell you, mother, where I am, where I'm working? How do I know you won't pass it on to Officer Jones? OK fine, I'm in Canton, Ohio."
LJL, I still use the "why should I say anything to you/reveal information as to 'how I've been', how do I know you won't pass it along to Officer Jones" line to dodge all her questions. I can almost hear her crying on the phone. |
