lol at "business"

the only CR things to major in are science/engineering disciplines, maybe CS if they are too dumb to learn it on their own

99.999% of "BIDNESS" jobs can be learned via apprenticeship

If you look at ugrad b-schools, they place well - better than most other majors. Sure, theoretically you can learn stuff through apprenticeships but that's not how modern society is structured. Also, b-school at a decent place is a great all around program that teaches students to write, think analytically and strategically, do projects and presentations, and other shit that will be useful throughout their careers. Once upon a time, lib arts programs served this function but we all know what happened with that.

"the only CR things to major in are science/engineering disciplines, maybe CS if they are too dumb to learn it on their own"

This is a stupid way of thinking.

A good undergrad b-school will have banks, accounting firms, consultants, and f-500's doing on-campus interviews for internships and jobs. I was at a t-30 undergrad and saw it first hand (unfortunately I was in the shitlib arts).

Placement stats suggest otherwise. You go to college to get a job and getting a 4 year degree from a decent b-school is a great way to achieve that. You'll generally want a grad degree and personally, I'd love for my kids to get real technical skills but not everyone wants to/likes/is capable of technical disciplines.

If you have to work for the money then you are a prole. If you have a trust fund/inheritance that will give you an upper class lifestyle, then by all means, major in whatever bullshit you want because college is just 4 years of socialization.

My kids will need to work for a living so they're going to college to get a job. 99% of posters here (minus RSF and maybe a few others) are proles.

Because they'll still have it better than 99% of people on this planet. Saying you shouldn't have kids unless you're in the top 0.001% of humanity seems silly to me and even many of those kids seem to have unfulfilling, terrible lives.

And they can still have an elite life, they'll just have to get there themselves. I would love it if they managed that.

Also - a double major with a soft "business" type major and a harder STEM major is a good approach, if it can be done in a reasonable amount of time.

Something that only requires 4 years or less of education and has a built-in or consistent job market.

Examples: nursing, education, engineering, computer science

If my kid was more skilled with their hands or had more mechanical aptitude, I would encourage them to do something like plumbing, electrician, or to go to a 1-2 year trade school for something like welding, auto repair, etc

the thing is that nothing we think is the right thing today, will apply when these shitkids that are being born now are applying for school. so i guess i'd just tell them to follow their heart and passion.

none of us lawyers, unless we are early investors in some fartapp that takes off, will be able to pay for college in 20 years. so hopefully some other system or for profit corp like coursera can hang in there and take over.
