As we speak, supposedly, if you believe the polls, a carnival barking, snake oil selling, P.T. Barnum invoking, clown is leading in the primaries for the Republican nomination.

Instead of scratching our heads, perhaps we should all just watch  Mike Judge and his film Idiocracy, and be done with it.

Reviews at the above link call it satire, which would be encouraging if only it were not painfully accurate.

We live in an age of more easily accessible information than ever, yet it seems people on all sides of the aisle are becoming more and more clueless.

We see “man on the street” interviews by even goofball activists like Mark Dice where those interviewed are totally ignorant about world affairs of any stripe, including who is currently running. They might now elect  Nixon, and do not recall Watergate.

Certainly, any number of these alleged spontaneous public opinion videos could be edited or outright faked, but we all secretly fear that that would be wishful thinking.

Having information at your fingertips does no good when tribalism is king.

We all complain about how politicians on all sides lie, but how do we ACT in terms re-electing the same creeps year after year?

Do we reward consistent types, like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)?

We have met the enemy, and it is us.

What good does it do for politicians to be honest, when a stealth progressive can win even the right’s nomination or heavily threaten to, in a cycle where Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) exists???

On one side sits somebody who has CONSISTENTLY done what he has said he will. He has done that to the extent of his ability, without apology, for years now.

On the other, we have Trump.

Others have cataloged his seemingly daily changes of position, his past support over years for progressiveness.

Yet, tons of people who you might think would know better on sites like American Thinker, are loaded up with posts by the peanut gallery exposing the slightest indication of inconsistency in Ted’s resume-are IGNORING totally at least 10,000 times more evidence of the same on steroids for The Donald.

Any attempt to expose his record is dismissed as a “hit piece” by emotionally invested buyers of his magic tonic, who of course interpret any exposure of their idol as being an attack on them, personally.

If the shoe fits, wear it.

It makes no sense to complain that the GOPe says one thing to GET elected, then acts contrary ONCE IN OFFICE if you continually reward suspect candidate options who are clearly telling you what you want to hear.

It’s painfully obvious to anyone with 2 brain cells, that if someone or something walks and talks and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. It does not matter if the duck claims he’s not Donald the progressive duck, if his feathers have been on display for years before and he suddenly puts on a pink bunny rabbit suit.

Ask yourself, if somebody way left wing like Bernie Sanders, decided the current landscape was bad for Democrats, and opted to run on the GOP ticket (ala Arlen Specter?) this time further RIGHT than any Republican including Cruz, would you immediately believe him? On what basis?

If he said he was going to use executive orders as president to shut down abortion clinics nationwide, would you support him?

I would hope, perhaps naively, that you would laugh out loud at his fraud and insult to your intelligence, because clearly YOU would not believe such pandering by Bernie to cynically win votes, right?

If he did not have a record of the same for years, why would you give him the benefit of the doubt NOW just because he SAYS he believes thus and throws you red meat on performance enhancing drugs? You must be an extra cast member in the aforementioned Mike Judge movie!

The issue is not even the debate over the constitutionality, it’s about your stupidity to think that if a SALESMAN tells you what you, in your heart of hearts, WANTS to hear short term, that it is honest A fool and his Republic are soon parted.

So it is with Trump.

We cannot complain about lying political figures when we reward people who lie to us all the time, re-electing them.

We cannot moan about eventual probable betrayals if we keep trusting in the latest someone who has no record of meriting that. We allow ourselves to caught up in their rhetoric that they will give us everything we want NOW by magic if only our votes are cast for them. A salesman will tell you anything you want to hear to make the sale, or in this case, to get elected.

See Obama, 2008, though that might be a bad example since he really is fundamentally transforming us, but you get the drift.

There is no incentive for somebody to be a Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), if he can buck leadership and vote with near 100% scores, if he is *rewarded* with a loss to someone who is not even a conservative, because you are on a suicide mission with a pied piper.

Cruz should have a 30 point lead by now, and no, it’s not because of HIM that he does not. It’s because of us.

Fact is, the short attention span of the Idiocracy may be our downfall, not Obama or the collectivists.

We get the government we deserve, and we are about to see a convincing example of that if people do not wise up quick.

On this site even, and others, we are constantly chided that insulting Trump voters will not accomplish anything, yet appealing to their smarts is not an advert, either. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink.

If you seriously support Trump in an open cycle with somebody like Cruz, we have only ourselves to blame for a Hillary presidency or worse, a hallow victory in the fall and worse still, being branded for decades for supporting things none of us should. That would ruin our credibility as constitution defenders and would allow us to be cartooned by the left for ages.

And all over somebody not even WORTH IT to begin with!

Trump has negatives and polling internals that spell a national election defeat in any case, but winning with him might be almost as bad for the cause of conservatism as the alternative.

We must reward representatives who consistently perform as advertised, not fall for a shiny bauble on the road when it comes time to stand up and be counted.

I submit the reason is most people select their choices emotionally, without research, based upon how their GUT tells them to act. That’s why a person like Trump can switch positions, take ones contrary to years of past ones, but can say TODAY his beliefs are this or that and people believe him. They want to believe him. It’s not based on logic or evidence or rational thought.

How to fix or work around this dilemma is akin to finding the Holy Grail of political solutions.

When you have a GOPe that cannot even pass a non-controversial abortion bill with terms favored by most Americans and less restrictive than that of Sweden, people become so angry and frustrated that once a good bomb throwing salesman comes along, they immediately want to back him, even if doing so means cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Folks, that’s not the way you pick what is shaping up to be 3-4 Supreme Court picks, shaping it for 30+ years. You elect a stealth liberal, and moreover, one not informed by any evidence to understand how NOT to select a Souter, and you will have several of those sitting on the court for generations.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is likely to KNOW how to vet those picks, and if he’s a “true believer” he’s likely to take a personal stake in his legacy about that beyond merely winning to fly on air force one to stroke his ego. The stakes are too high here to trust a used car salesman with what are likely to be picks designed to off table agree with The Donald on eminent domain arguments.

The mere fact that we are even DISCUSSING this seriously is unbelievably depressing.

The Idiocracy is why we see people who can change their spots left and right, and be given the benefit of the doubt that he will do any of what he says should he actually be elected nationally. Heck, the Idiocracy is why many of those same folks profess proudly that if he does only *one* thing he has promised it will be worth voting him in over it!

Worldwide, the sad truth is most elections are won on emotion and who pushes the current buttons of national mood, not on any rational scale. Whether it’s Hitler or Obama or Trump, the idea of the promise in the sales pitch is what works.

Since most people do not do research, they neither know nor care what the record is, they just support whoever can appeal to them in a grade school way with lines designed for bumper stickers or sound bites, and in the age of American Idol Twitter feeds and Instagram, barking out emotional appeals in 4 words or less works. Hence, Trump.

People supporting him are so dug in that they admit he’s not a conservative, but since he will “build a wall” they will vote for him, since they are fed up with Washington and after all, if the border changes the electorate, other issues do not matter, etc. Then they proudly admit support for a person they admit does not support their worldview to send a message to the GOPe.

These folks are almost as damaging as the gullible portion of his base.

How did we get to this point? Do not blame the Establishment when the speck in thy eye is the size of a 2×4 wood plank.

Let’s be honest, the right loves to point to videos of Obama supporters supporting positions of Romney in 2012 when they were fooled into assuming those were voiced by their Greek column backdrop appearing idol. But if we put ones belonging to Hillary and said Trump backed those, would you expect them to *not* defend them ignorantly? If so, you are being naive.

It’s not a conspiracy where Trump is a Clinton interference plant. It’s not that tons of registered Democrats are supporting him, even if they are. At the end of the day, you can’t fix stupid.

There is no reason for any politician to be consistent, vote correctly, etc. when he always knows he can take up positions not held hours before and be taken at his word, if he lies well enough and exploits immediate emotions.

Lucy always pulls the football away because Charlie Brown always falls for the same trick, time after time.

Every minute another post appears chiding those of us who see this coming, those of us who also saw Obama coming, that we must not insult Trump voters since we will eventually need their votes. Fair enough.

Agreeing on some level if not in exact details with his claimed prescriptions is one thing, supporting a con artist is quite another, particularly in a cycle where several better options exist, and spitting in their faces by selecting The Donald would be idiocy.

It should be blatantly obvious to everyone that Trump is like this person from an episode from Andy Griffith.

People fall for this stuff in all eras, because human nature facilitates it, as it does politicians like Trump.

I’m not sure what can be done to stop the world from becoming more and more dense like in the movie, such that a stupid person by today’s standards is considered an Einstein many years from now, but I do know we need to start by electing Cruz.

The republic and the human race may be ultimately doomed, but we have to give it the old college try one last time.

Still, does it makes sense to trust an electorate that knows more about the latest American Idol than their government? Does it make sense to trust voters who believe Sarah Palin said something she did not because they saw it repeated on Saturday Night Live? Pop culture is more impacting than how Cruz voted on Omnibus.

Sue me for being skeptical.

People voted for Obama twice. Not only that, he won in the face of continued support for a health care law crammed down the throats of voters that they rightly despised and mistrusted BEFOREHAND. Benghazi did not win out, either. Romney lost handily.

It’s been said by the right that we are doomed because 50% of the public is stupid, which may be true, but what if the other 50% are on our side?
