- are you getting significant scholarship money to go somewhere?

- do you have the stats to get into a T14 school?

- are you a URM with at least above average GPA/LSAT?

If no to all three then fuck no

I'd tell them to try and do something else for 2 years. If they like it and/or are making more than 70k with room for more pay, then they shouldn't go to law school.

If they hate it and they aren't making 70k and they can get into a T14, then they should go to law school (taking out government loans only). From there they can either choose a public service poor life or make $$$ in big law.

I mean law sucks and law school's tuition is a fucking criminal act - and I do mean criminal. But there aren't a lot of other opportunities to go from making $40k to making $160k a few years later. My hours are by no means terrible and I make literally 10x what I was before I started law school.

No, I've been asked this question a few times recently by boomer friends wanting me to talk to their nephews or whatever. The answer is always no, that I made a mistake, and unless you're going for free or nearly free, don't do it.

If you have some kind of in, such as: HYS, family money, living with your folks and going in-state, a full ride. Otherwise you're playing musical chairs. When the music stops some peeps are going to have a place to sit and some aren't.

Not unless you KNOW you want to practice law.

The practice of law is SHIT - why waste 3 years + spend years working in law just to leave within like 6 years?

It's really hard to get anyone to rationally think about debt. Maybe if someone has a pre law school job you could tell them to simulate making student loan payments for a few months so they can get a sense of how crushing it is

1. K->JD should be banned. Straight up.

2. Work. Get experience. Might lead to alternative paths. Or open eyes about law.

3. Seriously consider PT options to keep debt down.

4. You need to seriously do your HW and have a path, dont just go to some lower T14 and say BIGLAW and be a V100 litigator and killself.

They never want to do anything. They just want to be in school and to be PRESTIGIOUS oooo im in law school!
