It was my all-time social peak, I had a reasonably popular GF who was a cheerleader (this is probably a technicality I'm playing up too much though, she was not the type of chick who dated male athletes or anything; at our school being a cheerleader didn't mean much).
Our relationship was significant enough to be a topic of school gossip at times. My closest friend dated one of the 10 or so hottest girls in the school.
So yeah, I was a reasonably 'alpha' guy at the time, though I was nowhere near the 'popular-popular' clique (i.e. the group whose parents are rich establishment types and such).

Late in high school I started hanging around with people I had previously regarded as losers. I had even bullied some of these people in the past.
The thing is, I didn't really regard myself as a bully back then because I wasn't mean to *that* many people, and there were some people that were mean to me as well.
I was pretty proud of myself for making amends to those people. I even outright apologized to one of them.

Long poast coming. I don't think about high school very often anymore, but I do look back on it as a terrible experience and one that I never want to repeat.
I was a lost and confused soul. I was a pretty good athlete at a non-cool sport.
More intelligent than my classmates, and it resulted in me being an arrogant, conceited prick. Thought I was better than everybody, which resulted in ostracizing others. Ended up as a leader of the school's freaks and geeks-like crew.
I was also idealistic as hell. 9/11 happened when I was in high school, and I remember being all "Murica" and what have you in response. Idealism also presented itself in that I hated how unfair and unjust high school felt. Popular kids weren't necessarily smarter or better looking--many were popular by virtue of their birth.
Only thing that saved me was that I was/am decently intelligent so I could back up the talk.
I was very insecure--hence the need for constant bragging and arrogance. By the end of college I still was insecure, but I hid it better by the time I left and had more genuine confidence. Figured out the game of life my Junior and Senior years of college, and things have been pretty good ever since. If I could go back and do college (and even law school) again---damn that would be amazing.
Edit: This has the potential to be a very cool thread. I kind of expected more people to poast with an experience like mine.
Edit 2: I'm just going to keep expanding this poast. I realize I left sex out of the equation. Being decent looking and mildly popular on the freaks-and-geeks throne I had some chicks interested in me. None were going to win any awards, but cute enough. For some reason I just wasn't ready for girlfriends and would turn them away. Somehow I thought that made me cooler. I remember one chick asking me out to a dance, me turning her down, and I never went to a single school dance all of high school. It's too bad because she was pretty cute with huge tits.
Senior year met a cool chick, got a little action--no sex, and then let that 180 relationship fall apart because, again, I just wasn't there mentally or something.

When you say "fixed" do you mean repaired or set in stone?
I suppose my personality isn't that much different now than it was in high school. The thing that I fixed/repaired is how that personality projects out to the world. I'm much less abrasive now, probably because I have real confidence in myself versus the desire for confidence.
In high school I was a smart, decent-looking, decently athletic kid, but my desire for attention and my crippling insecurity manifested itself in such a douche way. I'm still the same guy, but more comfortable in my skin.

Yeah. I'm not surprised you'd think that for two reasons:
1. As I said, a lot of my development has been not letting the world see my inner smug cunt. But I'm being a bit more honest here and not suppressing that.
2. I've had lots of good friends tell me they hated me when they first met me. Probably related to #1. But I do tend to get along with most people I meet these days. Only people I struggle with to this day are people with very liberal social tendencies.

After football season my senior year concluded (I was a captain and we made it to the semifinals), I sort of drifted out of the HS scene. Several of my friends were college student at the university would eventually attend, and I started spending more and more time partying at the university during the weekends. I stayed close with my best bros, but by the time graduation rolled around, I was completely checked out of the social scene.
As for school, almost all of my classes were a joke by that point. I took SEVERAL shop, home-ec, and other blow off classes my senior year. Actually, I took my shop classes (welding, advanced wood working, drafting, and metal fabrication) seriously, and interestingly enough, I think those are the only classes I derived any sort of continuing practical benefit.
