I'm a 5th year and got an in-house offer for ~150k at a place I understand to be 9 to 6 and no weekends. If I were a 7th or 8th year (and about to not make partner) I wouldn't hesitate, but I feel like I'm a little early and still have a lot to learn at my firm. On the other hand, in-house opportunities in my practice area and in my city are not common at all.

Thats $64.10 per hour for poasting on XO and conducting your personal biz at work! Not bad at all!

This. As an inhouse bro, coming in as a 5th yr will put you in a solid position to contribute pretty quickly.

Depending on the practice area and city, 150k may be solid. From what I've seen, u'll need to bounce around to climb the ladder.

Comp is more like 170k all in, in a secondary market. It's more than I'm making at my firm in the same market. Practice area isn't great for in-house opportunities but not terrible either.

I'm thinking 4 weeks vacation is going to be hard to pass up. My big concern is losing my job if the company gets bought or something.

Making more money for less work that happens to be more interesting than the work you do now seems 180.

Take the job and try to start positioning yourself as much as you can in the business parts of it to transition away from the law.

I'd take it unless you're talking about a shitty company that may possibly close its doors soon or you hate the environment/city.

Not sure what you'll be doing, but you may pick up other skills that will prove useful once you bounce to another in-house gig. Much of in-house, if its a big company, is navigating the internal policies and procedures (e.g., approvals, deal reviews, etc) -- that can be incredibly frustrating and cumbersome, which is why in-house attys prefer fellow in-house attys. The work isn't as complex as some of the stuff you'd handle in private practice, but you'll be exposed to some unique things that you wouldn't have seen otherwise (e.g., dealing with the business people directly, etc).
