It also makes me worried about how he will treat Muslims in general.
His tax proposals would add significantly to the national debt. He also wants to remove the inheritance tax which I'm opposed to.
I oppose protectionism on ideological grounds (major proponent of free trade, like conservatives used to be).
He lacks any foreign policy expertise whatsoever. I could overlook this if he seemed to be interested in learning more about policy, but from what I can tell he is entirely disinterested in this and would rather focus on petty personal disputes and twitter zingers.
He also seems deeply immature and egomaniacal and incapable of reigning in his excesses. I prefer a leader with a calm and collected disposition that can evaluate situations rationally and dispassionately and make the best decision based on the information at hand. He seems more likely to make emotionally-driven decisions.
I like that he's telling SJWs to fuck off and that he has promised greater investment in infrastructure. I'm also glad he's shattered evangelicals' grip on the GOP.
But on balance I don't think he would be a good POTUS. I'm still glad he's in the general and not Cruz though, since I think Cruz is basically a Sith lord (dude's evil and conniving). |

But I don't think this justifies discriminating against individuals (it's the difference between saying black people commit more crimes on average, which is true and fair, and believing a black person is a criminal because they are black, which is prejudiced and unfair).
I have no problem with religious organizations being forced to comply with a mandate like providing birth control pills. Religious exercise and freedom should be respected, but it's not an absolute and I don't think anybody would argue that casting an opinion as based on religion makes that opinion or action driven by that opinion unassailable (extreme example being religious ritualistic sacrifice).

Modern day Western liberalism is an orthodoxy. Like all orthodoxy it has its tenets by which its adherents define themselves and use as a foundation for their moral code and underpins their rationality.
Such tenets include principles such as diversity, inclusiveness at all costs, a general understanding that past Western history was discriminatory and that classic Western values are no better than other cultural values and so forth.
Donald Trump violates these tenets and it's not just Trump himself but the very act of millions of people voting for Trump that shocks liberals. As always, when the followers of an ideology feel that they are being criticised they are under seige and they feel that the foundations underpinning their orthodoxy is suddenly shaky, they go on the defensive. Hence the over the top Trump hatred, which only reveals their fears and perhaps an inner instinct that their orthodoxy, to which they have devoted much of their sense of worthiness, is actually weak and shallow, or at the least, has fundamental flaws.
The overdrive in attacking Trump is an attempt to ignore that fear. |
