I got stopped for a broken tail light and cop said if I took care of it in 24 hours there'd be no penalty. So I got it repaired and took pics and saved receipt. Prosecutor said I had to take it to police precinct for inspection, which cop didn't mention and I didn't. He's offered a plea deal of jaywalking and a $50 fine (instead of $150 for broken tail light). Should I accept? Seems so unfair

What's your alternative?

Going to trial and arguing that you DIDN'T have a broken tail light?

Pay the $50 and go home.

Take it to trial.

If the cop shows up, have the prosecutor show him your proof.

Most likely he won't even show up and it will be dismissed.

Of course, there's always a risk the cop will recant and refuse to honor his word, but I think it's unlikely.
