literally buy any real estate for sale in nyc during the 1970s and 1980s.
move to china in 1988 and literally do anything.
buy-to-let in the UK in the 1990s and you were golden.
small-time entrepreneurs need to identify the macro environment. figuring out what you're good at is only the beginning.

There will always be idiots who were in right place at the right purely as a product of coincidence, but this observation really isn't useful. Timing any market just right is next to impossible.
Most of the people who really benefit when an opportunity comes along are those who managed to squeak out an existence when times were tough because of some mix of skills and personality traits, and after doing that, they can really capitalize when the opportunity to do so presents itself. |
