HOw stable was it when Ghaddafi announced his intention to massacre thousands of people? Look, I think we should've let him do it and not be swayed by the French, Brits and (to a lesser extent) Germans, Spaniards and Italians, but GOPfags who harp on instability in Libya are often people who
(1) were yelling at Obama for his foot-dragging, e.g., Trump and Gingrich
and/or
(2) supporters of the Iraq war who are desperately trying to draw an equivalency because they are angry about the fact that they were bashed for supporting the most destabilizing foreign policy decision in american history;
and/or
(3) reflexive idiots who pay attention and have *some* knowledge about foreign affairs (just a little, but a lot compared to the average american who pays no attention has zero knowledge) but not enough knowledge to consider (or even think to consider) counterfactuals

Think this for more than a second though
In a civil war how is order restored? On the eve of Ghaddafi's move to restore the country, he was hobbled and then overthrown even though Libyan unity was more or less eminent.
Who were the rebels known to be at the time the Western forces made this move? The largest faction was Al Qaeda, there were other competing forces, no plan for succession.
The result was obvious and known before the west took action. The alternative would be to allow resumption of Ghaddafi's peaceful and prosperous(for the Libyans) rule.
There are a number of cables with explicit considerations of why this act was to be undertaken, look them up.
Also, u mischaracterized what Trump said
